Ore Mountains pearl with monument train ...
Geyer, first mentioned in the 14th century, is located roughly halfway between Chemnitz and Annaberg. The idyllic little town is an ideal starting point for exploring both Chemnitz and the upper Ore Mountains - for example Cranzahl or Jöhstadt.
But there are also numerous destinations waiting to be discovered in and around the town of Geyer. Be sure to visit the seven-storey tower museum to find out more about the town's history. Special exhibitions and musical tours during the Advent season provide you with unique experiences. We would also like to draw your attention to the monument to the history of transport and the Greifensteine leisure pool.
The mountain town is surrounded by forest and, with its harsh mountain climate, offers the best conditions for outdoor activities and guaranteed snow in winter. Whether cycling, hiking or skiing - you will find more than 100 kilometres of signposted tours around the Greifensteine.
The Greifenbach pond with its sandy beach is an Eldorado for families in summer for swimming, camping, boating and relaxing. With the most beautiful natural stage, the Greifensteine are also a magnet for visitors in the summer months.
The landmark of the town of Geyer is the Binge, a mining and natural monument. You can learn more about mining in the region on regular guided tours of the Binge. There is still so much to discover and experience in Geyer and the Greifenstein region - why not start today!

Monument train
... relics of the Thum narrow-gauge railway network
The narrow-gauge railway line from Schönfeld-Wiesa to Geyer, which opened in 1888, gave Geyer a connection to the standard-gauge ‘Zschopautalbahn’ - and a railway station. After the construction of the Greifenbach viaduct with a length of 181 metres and a height of 36 metres, the 750 mm railway was extended to Thum in 1906. In 1967, however, the Deutsche Reichsbahn ceased operations between Schönfeld-Wiesa and Thum and had the tracks and bridges demolished in the 1970s.
The transport monument in Geyer, which commemorates this narrow-gauge railway, consists of the steam locomotive 99 534 of the Saxon class IV K, a four-axle passenger carriage, a two-axle baggage wagon, two rolling wagons, an entry signal and a water crane.
The former engine shed is home to the Geyer model railway club and is the venue for the annual model railway exhibition at Christmas time. These railway enthusiasts provide more information on their homepage at
www.mec-geyer.de.
The monument to transport history is located at Bahnhofstraße 13 in Geyer.
